Meet your instructor
My name is Emma and I am your instructor
Hi, I’m Emma. As a certified fitness instructor, I’ve been helping people move, strengthen, and connect with their bodies for over 27 years. My journey began in London, U.K., where I earned my initial certifications through the YMCA and Fit to Perform back in 1999. I spent my early career leading high-energy traditional aerobics and step classes before relocating across the Atlantic to Nelson, B.C. There, I integrated into the local fitness community, teaching group classes and expanding my education with BCRPA, CFES, and Incrediball credentials.
In the mid-2000s, persistent neck and shoulder pain led me to my very first Pilates class—and I was instantly hooked. The transformative, low-impact nature of the workout didn't just relieve my pain; it left me feeling taller, more aligned, and deeply focused. I have been practicing both mat and reformer Pilates ever since (long before it became an Instagram trend!).
When I returned to the U.K. in 2010, I found myself living in a small rural village without a nearby studio. Recognizing a community need, I established my own evening and weekend mat classes in local schools and village halls while balancing a full-time day job too.
Eventually, the call of the mountains and the laid-back Kootenay lifestyle brought me back home to Nelson. Spending my days sat at a keyboard and on the phone, I quickly realized how much my body needed consistent, intelligent movement. Seeing a lack of local mat Pilates classes, with only one studio dedicated to Pilates, I committed to filling that gap. In 2024, I completed my Canadian certification through the EYT Pilates Teacher Training Program to bring accessible, affordable Pilates to our mountain community.
As a Pilates teacher, I strive to make every class fun, lighthearted, and deeply engaging. My goal isn’t to build the perfect posture—it’s to build a vibrant community. In my classes, I am never looking for perfection. Instead, I look for commitment, presence, and body awareness. I believe that if we can unroll our mats together, move, breathe, and find a genuine connection, then we have already succeeded. Pilates is a practice, not a destination, and it should truly be accessible to everyone. Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or the hundredth, you are welcome here just as you are.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me exploring the beautiful Kootenays. I love camping in the wilderness with my husband and our dogs, cooking up healthy snacks, baking fresh sourdough, or relaxing with a glass of wine. I am an avid traveler (with 25 countries checked off my bucket list!) and am incredibly grateful to live in these mountains with a strong, capable body that lets me explore them every single day.
